Helpful hints on how to make the most of your Disney vacation without spending a bundle.

Walt Disney World, "The Happiest Place on Earth" can also be one of the most expensive places on earth if you don't keep a tight leash on your budget. Thankfully, even in this economy, Disney is a budget-friendly vacation destination if you know how to plan. Here are a few simple tips to help you have fun and make your vacation the affordable trip of a lifetime.

First, if at all possible, visit during one of their "Value seasons". These usually fall between March and April, then again between August and October. During these seasons you may be able to find discounts that would not exist during peak visiting times. Not to mention that fewer visitors means shorter lines at major attractions and less of that overcrowded feeling that often plagues theme parks.

Second, shop around. Don't hesitate to search the Web or call around to find the best prices on tickets and accommodations. Discount codes can be a real money-saver if you take the time to look, and seeing as the average adult one-day ticket to any of the WDW parks currently stands at roughly $90, a little extra bargain hunting time could benefit you greatly. If you live in the Sunshine State, you also have the option of Florida Resident Discounts on both daily tickets and annual passes.

Now that the planning stage is complete, here are a few tips to get you through your time with Mickey and the gang without leaving them all your money.

  1. Make sure to eat well before going to the park of your choice and bring a few bottles of water with you. Contrary to popular belief you are allowed to bring outside food and beverages into the park, and sugary sodas and snacks will only make you thirsty so BYOB, save money, and stay hydrated.
  2. If you are a current or retired member of the US military, you are entitled to special benefits and discounts within the Disney system of parks. Keep your military ID with you and save up to 40% on accommodations alone.
  3. Shop for your souvenirs outside the parks. There are many major outlets that carry the same products you would find in the park at a deeply discounted price.
  4. If you leave a park mid-day, make sure to get your hand stamped. That way you can enjoy a meal offsite and relax a bit before returning for the evening when the crowds have thinned out.
  5. Finally, check your hotel lobby for publications like I love Orlando magazine, which contain a multitude of discounts and coupons for various things such as area attractions, restaurants, and specialty shops.

No matter what park you plan on visiting, by planning ahead, seeking out the best deals, and following the tips listed above, you can enjoy significant savings on your WDW vacation getaway without sacrificing your own enjoyment. Have a magical vacation and happy bargain hunting!
